Baal Taschit and Recycling

This program is an introduction to recycling at day camp through teaching about the Jewish concept of baal tashchit with a modality of hands on activities presented each Wednesday- known as “Wasteless Wednesdays”. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the Jewish concept of baal tashchit- do not waste – with various hands on activities introducing recycling for the first time ever at JCC Apachi day camp. This allows for the children to reflect on how they can make a difference in our world, what recycling means, what’s Jewish about it and will enhance their self esteem as they see their own efforts being valued by taking an active role in camp’s recycling initiatives. This resource was prepared by Becky Adelberg as part of the JOFEE Fellowship, and is geared towards 8-10 year olds.
